Emily Chalmers

Emily Chalmers is a talented stylist who owns caravanstyle.com (a fabulous shop!) but she also is renowned for her flea market style interiors.  

The contrast of the industrial shell of this apartment with the floral vintage feminine fabrics and objects. The unique market finds which adds tons of character to the spaces, making them feel loved and cosy.

This is such a girly thing to do: displaying shoes, clothes and jewellery on the wall....if only I had the space.....!!!

I admire everything in this shot, I have definitely formed an obsession with anglepoise lamps, whether it's table, wall or floor! Watch this space- another blog idea....

Bits and bobs

Afternoon, so today is about some of my finds over the years and how I've displayed them and a little about what they are and where they are from and why I like them so much, adding personality to each room. 

Old milking stool, door lock and padlock were picked up a few years ago from a random car bootsale the day after my other-half and I did our skydive in Oxfordshire! I just fell in love with them and cost me about £5. The white ceramic key was a valentines day pressie from notonthehighstreet.com. The butterfly print was bought back from Japan in an Ikea box frame that we had lying around the house and the dried hydrangea head was from a few years ago when I did a photo shoot for Eve magazine. All housed in an old fireplace nook.

White contemporary candelabra was a gift and from habitat, miniature old books were from a junkey antiquey place in Crystal Palace, white vase was from a very cheap homewear shop in Hull (about £3), the white ceramic bird (which my other-half hates) was from http://www.caravanstyle.com (I love this shop so much and will do a little blog about Emily's style soon). And the little metal decorative bowl is very dear to my heart,  it was a gift from my Nanna years ago-I admired it one day when I was at her house (it was cream and distressed back then) and just before she passed away she wrapped it up and gave it to me but when I opened it  found that she had repainted it in white gloss paint-bless her cotton socks she thought that it was too scruff to give it to me as it was.....little did she know that was why I like it so much! Anyway a couple of years later I decided to paint it black and it looks great and is one of the things that I would save if the flat was on fire, along with my Moooi smoke chair!

A selection of white ceramic bottles ranging from Kose to John Lewis, no. 7 wooden stamp from a brikabrack store, three black decorative wooden combs purchased for a cool little shop down Brick Lane a couple of years ago. The glass display dome was a pressie a couple of Christmases ago but the idea of displaying this cute little dog Avon bottle was inspired by a trip to Nottingham and a gorgeous shop called http://www.lechienetmoi.com/ 

My extremely heavy but fabulous vintage industrial Remington typewriter was inherited from Great Uncle Len. I love it and it's completely indestructible!

Morocco in the City LDN

Last night for one of my lovely friend's 40th Birthday we went to MoMo, a deliciously fabulous Moroccan restaurant and private basement bar. Despite allot of cocktails (cosmos of course!!) and wine I felt really inspired by the Moroccan feel and would love to trip there soon.......

Highlights from the evening (apart from great company!) were the delicious raspberry macaroons mmmmmmm, sipping crisp white wine form cut glass wine glasses made us feel very special & sitting out on the terrace cooling off and soaking up the relaxed (what felt like) summers evening.

So on reflection I love the mix of vivid bright contrasting colours with luxurious metallics and sparkles of coloured glass to create mouthwatering interiors:

Unique finds amongst the markets

 Gorgeous drapes/fabrics, low poufs and large lanterns to create the mood

 Intense colour

Tranquil haven amongst the hustle and bussle of the city-and RELAX

Hairy stuff

Evening, so today was a nice day off. Therefore I have decided to make this blog about some of my fashion likes and hairy stuff!

I love this casual look with a fab statement necklace and sparkly clutch bag. 

Again casual floaty shirt with cool glamourous shorts (only wish I could get away with wearing them!)

Amazingly long hair, lovely colour and loose romantic curls-so wish I had hair like this and I know it's wrong but want that phone cover too.....added to my birthday list-tick!

Lovely hair style with different sized braids and loosely pinned back, with volume on the crown. I will try this when I have some time.

I also really like this, and if I have the guts to go short I would...

And last but not least, another short envy image with casual clothes and statement jewellery, just gorgeous.

Old news - Mr Romeo Foxy

Ok so this is very random and not really design based however, yesterday while I was researching stuff for work I came across this brilliant story (apologies if you've already heard it as it is old news I fear) about a little fox living on the 72nd of the biggest London skyscraper construction site!

What amazing views he must have had, but how the hell did he get up there!!?

Abigail & the bulldog

Ok so my second blog.....as yet no one is following this but it has been a while since my first post. Therefore I am using it like a diary of things I like!

For the past year I have been captivated by Abigail Ahern, her style, her amazing eye for detail & colour and lovely manor (I read her blog every day http://abigailahern.wordpress.com/ only wish I could be as dedicated bolging as she is and also have as many fans -perhaps in another life).

I love her oversize and tongue in cheek objects, the glamorous and sumptuous dark shades of paint which work so brilliantly with the splashes of neon colour.



So on my Birthday list (which I have just told my partner about, to which he rolled his eyes big time), top of the list is the bulldog table lamp. Don’t ask me where I am going to put it but I will find a cute little spot where it will be very happy and well out of reach of my little boy who will no doubt feel he’ll need to pat it and kiss it and possibly even ride on it every time he pass by!



I also want this fire place but we need to buy a new house first....

There would be so many other things from Atelier Ahern’s on the list but perhaps that is being a bit greedy.......however I were to be very self indulgent, I would have endless faux hydrangea blooms & if our flat was big enough one of the painting bookcases- love love love them! I am considering booking in for one of her design master classes as some point towards the end of the summer/autumn which she is now doing in London, NYC & Australia and I am sure they are incredible.





I would also love a home Study area like this. By painting old pieces of furniture in bright colours is such a cool idea to give a new lease of life to old things. We have done similar things in our pad but I long to buy a huge old dining table and do something like this!

I promise to pin again soon.....if anyone is reading this, but in the meantime I promise myself.

Take a seat - the floor cushion search

So this is my first blog. I have had it set up for a while now but by chance I have got some time to kick start this thing! Hope you like it, enjoy it and perhaps it may even be helpful for some of you.

I have been searching for a large floor cushion for my 15month old son to go in our living room. Initially I wanted something that would fit with our room scheme but also have a child like feel. Perhaps a lovely print, maybe an aeroplane or elephant pattern. Our living room has a light contemporary feel, my sofa was one I made at university (when I designed it I had never imagined we would still be sitting on it every evening 10 years later-must buy a proper one soon!) grey and fuchsia pink. Then we have white and black accessories.
